Pornificatus totalus

On Slate, this dialogue about the new books Pornified and Female Chauvinist Pigs. I like Laura Kipnis (Against Love) even when I don’t agree with her, and she does a good job fending away the moralists here, I think. Also, one of the participants started a website called Modesty Zone (warning! This site is for girls! Yuck!) that is just awful! You should check it out. One of my favorite things was an article about a controversial German artist, Gunther von Hagen, called “Gunther’s Unwilling Exhibitionists.” The article was overblown and alarmist and bad enough, but what about the title. It could only be a reference to Hitler’s Willing Executioners, the controversial Holocaust book by Daniel Goldhagen. Hopefully this is the product of at least partly unconscious association (the alternative — “Hagen and hagen! That rhymes!”).
