My brother, Nick, is taking his first proof-based math class, and he wanted to type up his homework so I put him on to TeX. That was a couple weeks ago. Fastforward to this evening: I’m yammering on about how bad Reagan was (inspired by Bob Herbert). Nick agrees:
Me: Reagan sux0rs
Nick: yeah
Nick: and barry goldwater too
Nick: ( \reagan_{0} )
In TeX, \reagan_{0} will produce the Reagan symbol with the subscript zero (assuming \reagan is a command which produces the Reagan symbol), suggesting a sort of proto-Reagan. “Reagan-sub-zero?” I asked, using a common pronunciation scheme.
“I prefer the pronunciation ‘Reagan-naught.’” Which is a British sort of pronunciation which has the fortuitous and awesome consequence of generating a hilarious (if time-inconsistent) pun. As you can tell, it all makes me rather proud.
